Good news on the Security System
April 29, 2008
In Everything Must Change and at our EMC Tour events, we talk about four critical global crises, one of which is the crisis of the security system, a.k.a. the peace crisis. It's not often that we can report good news on this front.
First, in the new issue of Sojourners, you can learn how Henry Kissinger and other Reagan administration leaders have joined together to promote not just a limitation in the development of nuclear weapons, but more ... the creation of a nuclear-weapon-free world. You may find this hard to believe, but it's true.
And you can read the moving story of an anti-nuclear activist who has experienced a fusion of activism and Christian faith here.
More good news: over 100,000 people have sent an email to the Department of Energy urging them not to develop new and more powerful nuclear warheads, and urging them instead to work for a nuclear-weapons-free world.
Even more good news - our emails have challenged the Department of Energy to extend the comment period until tomorrow, Wednesday.
And still more good news - that means - if you haven't already done so - you can add your name to the list by going here ...
Please take this small step of solidarity with people who are motivated by faith in Jesus to oppose the insanity of nuclear weapons proliferation, and who are instead dreaming a better dream.

kansas city report
April 29, 2008
We had another excellent weekend in Kansas City - number nine in our eleven cities this spring. Our hosts there - Youthfront and Jacob's Well - were a delight to work with, and the people who participated in the event were a joy. I also had the pleasure of staying over and speaking at Jacob's Well, now on my "if I ever move to that city I'll be part of that church" list.
The only downside was that Tracy, our worship leader, got rushed to the hospital a couple of times. She amazed everyone by coming back from the emergency room to lead our last session on Saturday, and at last report, it looks good for her to be with us in the Bronx this weekend and Goshen the next.
Our little DeepShift team had a couple of meals together over the weekend and we all said, "This is one of the best teams of people (or maybe the very best) I've ever worked with." One of life's best pleasures is doing important and good work with a cohesive, gifted, and passionate group of people - and it's even better when they all enjoy lots of laughter together.
Hey, if you live in the Northeast ... why not sign up for the Bronx this weekend, or if you live in the Midwest ... why not join us in Goshen?

Lots of friends have been asking me this ... I thought this article from a participant in our Oak Park/Chicago event offers a better answer than I could give.

Latest deepshift newsletter – music link
April 22, 2008
Here's a copy of this week's email newsletter. Check out the links below ...
Greetings, friends -
First, three resources that many of you will find helpful...
Aaron Niequist is one of the gifted new songwriters who is writing worship music with a concern for justice. Lots of great resonances with Everything Must Change, Songs for a Revolution of Hope and my "open letter to worship songwriters". You can read the lyrics to his beautiful new collection of songs here, and listen to an mp3 of "The Resistance," and order the CD too....
Here are a couple of my favorite lines from Aaron's album:
From "The Resistance" - We hear the call of kingdom come as one more train we chase to only miss...but we will never give up on it. ... We're living in a world built on the walls between the haves and never wills. But we're following a king whose ears are bent to those forgotten and unfilled...and he will never give up on it.
From "Love Can Change the World" - Bridges are more beautiful than bombs are...listening is louder than a lecture...an open hand is stronger than a fist is...may we never stop this dreaming of a better world

New Reviews
April 22, 2008
The Christian Century this month carries a very encouraging review of Everything Must Change ... you can read it here.
Although it's still too soon for published reviews of Finding Our Way Again, I have received three responses from readers and so far, all three said they read (one said "devoured") the book either in one sitting or one day. To an author, "I couldn't put it down" is like a juicy steak to a meat-eater's taste buds, or like fresh greens to a vegetarian, or like good polling numbers to a political candidate.
