You Lied to Us

You told us you couldn't.

You swore that you wouldn't.

You said it was impossible

To change that much that fast.

You called the rest of us dreamers,

Idealist, unrealistic.

You laughed at us.

Then, in a matter of days,

You spent more to retrieve

The unsustainable past

Than we asked you to invest

In a sustainable future.

If you get your grasp on your

Precious present

Again, don't lie to us again.

We need your new realization:

That when crisis hits,

What seemed impossible

And unthinkable

Becomes inevitable

And unavoidable

Overnight.

They Told You It Was a Hoax

Why trust scientists? they asked.

It's no big deal. These things happen

All the time.

It's all hysteria, they said.

A liberal hoax.

You tried to tell them they had

Complacency bias and baseline syndrome,

But the fact that you were right meant they

Wouldn't listen.

Something as small as a virus, even smaller, a carbon atom,

Could change the world, you told them, forever.

They looked at you funny.

Sometimes by the time a danger is obvious,

It's too late to avoid it, you told them.

They shook their heads and

Kept watching

Fox News.

I'm sorry, Reality.

You tried.

I Heard a Voice

Not sure who it was.

My intuition? The universe?

Mother earth? God?

(All of the above?)

This is more than it seems, it said.

Like an embryo in an egg, it said,

You will either hatch now

Or go rotten.

The message still echoes inside

These white walls.

I think it's for me, and also

For everyone.
