A Seminar with Brian McLaren
Public Worship as Spiritual Formation and Preparation for Mission
Monday, March 15, 2009 v 9:00 a.m. – 3:45 p.m.
Hear & dialog with a leading voice in church renewal & leadership
Brian McLaren is an internationally recognized leader in the “emergent church.” He is a prolific author; the former pastor of Cedar Ridge Community Church in Burtonsville, MD; the chair of the board of Sojourners in Washington, D.C.; an occasional seminary professor; and a first-rate speaker and preacher. He can be found speaking to Presbyterians, Episcopalians, nondenominational folks, Catholics—just about everyone. He was, for instance, one of the speakers at the significant Lambeth Conference of worldwide Anglicanism in 2008. Locally, he has been part of an ecumenical panel on the war in Iraq, met with leaders in the emergent-church network, spoken on Christians and the environment for the Episcopal Church, and keynoted The Big Event for Presbyterians. This is his first speaking engagement at the Ecumenical Institute of Theology at St. Mary’s Seminary & University.
Among Brian’s books are A Generous Orthodoxy; A New Kind of Christian: A Tale of Two Friends on a Spiritual Journey; Everything Must Change: When the World’s Biggest Problems and Jesus’ Good News Collide; Finding Faith: A Search for What Is Real; Church on the Other Side; The Justice Project (co-editor); and his newest titles, Finding Our Way Again: The Return of the Ancient Practices and A New Kind of Christianity: Ten Questions that are Transforming the Faith. Some of these books will be for sale at the seminar.
Seminar cost: $65 per person ($45 for Ecumenical Institute students, faculty, and alums), which includes lunch.
