Announcing Convergence Leadership Project!

I would like to invite you to be part of a brave movement to change the world, beginning with ourselves and our faith communities.

As you probably know, I’ve written over a dozen books and spoken to thousands of churches and clergy gatherings over the last twenty years or so. I have seen American Christianity up close, especially in its Evangelical, Mainline, and Roman Catholic forms. I’ve been working hard to advocate change.

But I turned 60 the same year white American Christians elected Donald Trump as president, and I realized that whatever change I was helping encourage through my traveling and writing, it wasn’t happening fast enough or strongly enough.

That’s why I am writing to you. This summer, Rev. Jacqui Lewis and I, along with many inspiring colleagues, are launching the Convergence Leadership Project. I want you to consider being a part of this experiment in equipping and deploying a new kind of spiritual leader – in our congregations and in public.

Here’s the big idea. Our nation — and too many of our churches — are polarized and paralyzed between “us and them,” “right and left,” “good and bad.” As a result, too many are walking on eggshells, so afraid of offending anyone that they play it safe and fail to lead. We need leaders who can graciously and courageously lead beyond this impasse by modeling a new kind of moral and spiritual leadership, rooted in faith, centered in character, and expressed in resilient, joyful activism.
