On Economics

A reader sent this link, of obvious interest to me in light of my book Everything Must Change:

I’m sure you get links sent to you all the time, but i have been studying economics and social justice for about three years now, and still cannot find much economic material that supports capitalism being driven by a consumer culture. Turns out the reason why is that I read mostly Austrian economists who focus on wealth being created through value-laden production rather than just spending and consuming whatever our heart thinks it wants.
In any case, Sheldon Richman writes briefly about the source of this problem. Hr mentions two economists at the end I would admonish you to read. They are wonderful authors who do not hold the standard view of capitalism but are still avid supporters of the free market.

For those of us involved in a lot of theological conversations, it’s interesting to get a window into parallel controversies in the world of economics.
