A powerful poem
I met Doug in Brisbane, Australia, last year. He recently sent me this poem by Australian poet Drew Gillies (posted with Drew’s permission).
Uncautious
[a repentance from mindless dogma]
I used to say a person
went off the rails.
As if life were about rails.
I used to say a person
lost the plot.
As if life were about a plot.
A blinkered slave worker,
swinging my hammer and driving the spikes
and singin’ mah spirit-chuls,
it was me laying the rails.
Across the plots of others.
